What should I do in an emergency?
For a life-threatening emergency: Call 911, or go to the nearest hospital. Notify your health plan, and call your doctor’s office as soon as possible.

What if I need care "after hours"?
Arroyo Seco Medical Group understands that our patients may require medical attention after regular office hours. As a result, we have established an after-hours clinic available Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in our Pasadena office located at 301 S. Fair Oaks Avenue, Suite 300.

If you have an urgent medical need after hours, please call your doctor’s office. You will be connected to the medical exchange (your doctors’ answering service is staffed with skilled workers). The exchange will then contact the physician on call. If the physician directs you to an urgent care center, Arroyo Seco Medical Group utilizes the following facilities:

What is a Physician Assistant?
Physician Assistants (PA) are highly qualified practitioners who are graduates of an accredited PA program and who are licensed by the state to practice medicine as delegated by and with the supervision of a physician.

PAs maintain national certification by earning 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and are retested every six years by the NCCPA.

PAs provide a broad, comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. Such duties include performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating illnesses, and ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests. PAs may write referrals and prescriptions as well as fill out lab requests.

What is a Nurse Practitioner?
Nurse Practitioners (NP) are registered nurses who possess additional preparation, skills and licenses to provide health services independently and in collaboration with a variety of other healthcare providers.

In California, all NPs are certified by the California Board of Registered Nursing and are required to complete 30 units of continued education every two years to maintain their licenses.

NPs obtain histories, do physical exams, order pertinent diagnostic tests, and make diagnosis. NPs may write referrals and prescriptions as well as fill out lab requests.

NPs have a record of excellence for patient safety, quality of care, acceptance by patients and physicians, and cost effectiveness.

What if I need to see a specialist?
Arroyo Seco Medical Group works with a trusted network of highly qualified, local specialists to ensure our patients receive the care they need from the appropriate physician or healthcare professional. If you have an HMO, you must see your Arroyo Seco physician first to get the appropriate referral/authorization to visit a specialist. For all other insurance types, please follow your health plan’s guidelines for the referral process.

For women: Your Arroyo Seco physician is highly knowledgeable in women’s health and is available to perform your yearly pap smear. You have the option of having your pap smear performed by a gynecologist; however, most gynecologists do not perform complete physicals and will refer you back to your PCP for other health-related concerns. So why not come and see your PCP for your yearly pap smear? Your PCP can perform your pap smear, a complete physical, and address any other health concerns and questions you may have. As insurance companies pay for only one physical a year, we encourage you to make the most of this annual visit.

What if I am injured at work?
Arroyo Seco Medical Group is equipped to treat you if you are injured at work. Should a workplace injury occur, you’ll want to be sure you’ve made arrangements that will allow you to be treated by your own medical group, not an urgent care clinic that has no history of your health.

In order to allow or have your personal/primary care physician treat you in the event of an injury or occupational illness you are required -- prior to any injury -- to complete and file with your employer an “Employee’s Designation of Provider” form. This form guarantees that, should an injury occur, you will be treated by the healthcare provider of your choice.

We want you to be happy and healthy in your workplace. It is our goal to take care of your needs quickly and get you back on the job as soon as possible. For your convenience, we have same-day appointments, radiology services in our Pasadena location, and physical therapists nearby that can see you immediately.
Ask for an “Employee Designation of Provider” form at the front desk, then take it to your human resources director to sign and mail back to us

Arroyo Seco Medical Group will keep you informed regarding any new Workers’ Compensation laws and/or regulations. Please feel free to call our Workers’ Compensation Liaison at (626) 463-9010. We will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
